“Commissioner Sandilya Issues Cyber Vigilance Warning: Girls, Guard Your Online Presence”

In a press meeting addressing concerns about peace and security in the city, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Sandeep Sandilya issued a stern warning, urging girls to exercise caution on social media platforms. He highlighted the risks posed by strangers online and emphasized the importance of refraining from sharing personal photos and details.
Commissioner Sandilya revealed that two girls from the city had fallen victim to individuals with malicious intent on social media. Engaging in conversations with these strangers over three months, the girls became targets of cyber-pranksters who morphed their photos and videos. Subsequently, the culprits resorted to threats, promising to publish the manipulated content on the internet unless their demands were met.
Hyderabad Police successfully apprehended two suspects involved in these cases. Commissioner Sandilya expressed concern over the increasing instances of such cybercrimes, particularly involving young women who post profile pictures and interact with strangers.
“After taking charge as CP of Hyderabad, two cases came to my attention. In both these incidents, young women are the victims. The culprits morphed their photos and blackmailed them. They were coerced with threats,” stated CP Sandilya. He strongly urged individuals, especially girls, to exercise caution on social media:
- Avoid posting personal photos on public accounts.
- Secure social media profiles with privacy settings.
- Refrain from accepting friend requests from strangers.
- Enable two-step verification for added security.
- Avoid video calls with both friends and strangers.
- Stand firm against blackmail and pressure.
CP Sandilya assured the public that the police are ready to take strict action against offenders. He provided contact numbers (Cell Nos: 9490616555, 871266001) for direct communication in case of any trouble.
Addressing girls and women who may face harassment, Commissioner Sandilya emphasized considering the police as allies, stating, “Consider me as your brother. We will take strict action against the accused based on your complaints.”
Additionally, Commissioner Sandilya alerted parents to the presence of a gang importing intoxicating tablets from Bidar and selling them in Hyderabad, targeting students. He urged parents to stay vigilant and not leave their children alone to prevent such incidents.
