Hyderabad : Telangana Congress chief, Revanth Reddy, issued a challenge to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, urging him to visit the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) before seeking votes from the people of Telangana. Reddy raised questions about why the Prime Minister had not inspected the Kaleshwaram project despite visiting the state multiple times.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, Revanth Reddy said, “The PM is visiting the state asking for votes many times, but why did he not inspect Kaleshwaram ever? PM should find out why the Medigadda pillars sank and should arrest all those accountable for this project.”

Reddy also questioned the central government’s role in addressing the issues related to the project, alleging that the BJP might be receiving funds for protection from the ruling BRS (Bathukamma Ranganayakulu Sagar) government, which could explain their reluctance to question the flawed project.

He further called for action against the contractors and emphasized the need for Union irrigation minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to respond to the National Dam Safety Authority’s (NDSA) report.

Revanth Reddy accused the state government of altering project dynamics under the pretext of redesign and misappropriating significant funds. He highlighted flaws in the planning, design, and quality control of the Kaleshwaram project, particularly the construction of the Medigadda barrage, which ultimately led to its collapse.
