Hyderabad: The Telangana Congress has called upon the President and Governor to recommend a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the issues surrounding the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. They aim to investigate the recent failures of the project, including the sinking of piers at Medigadda and water leakage from the Annaram barrage.

In their appeal to President Droupadi Murmu, the party leaders highlighted that a committee from the National Dam Safety Authority had identified technical deficiencies during a recent field study of the Medigadda barrage. They emphasized the need for scrutiny into the project’s construction, financing, and potential irregularities.

The Congress party has urged the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Serious Fraud Investigation Organization (SFIO), National Dam Safety Authority, and Enforcement Directorate (ED) to look into these matters. They stressed that the CBI investigation is essential due to the significant loan amount involved, which is approximately Rs. 80,000 crore sourced from Central government lending agencies and public sector banks.

The Congress has requested the President and Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan to ensure the repair and safety of the Kaleshwaram barrages to prevent any potential harm to human lives and property resulting from sudden damage to the barrages or the unexpected release of water.
