In a recent press conference held in Hyderabad, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi expressed his strong views on the partition of India, labeling it a ‘historical mistake.’ Owaisi, the Lok Sabha MP from Hyderabad, vehemently stated that the division of India should never have happened, emphasizing that historically, India was one united nation that unfortunately got divided.
Addressing reporters, Owaisi argued against the partition, stating, “Historically, this was one country and unfortunately it was divided. It should not have happened. This is what I can say. But if you want, arrange a debate and I will tell you who is responsible for the division of this country… I cannot give a one-line answer for a historical mistake that was committed at that time.”
He recommended reading Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s book ‘India Wins Freedom,’ where Azad, a freedom fighter and India’s first Education Minister, pleaded with Congress leaders not to accept the partition proposal. Owaisi highlighted Azad’s efforts, saying, “The partition of this country should not have happened. That was wrong. All the leaders who were there at that time, they were all responsible (for partition). If you read Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s book ‘India Wins Freedom,’ Maulana Azad requested all the Congress leaders then that the country should not be divided.”
Owaisi also claimed that Islamic scholars of that era opposed the two-nation theory, further underlining his perspective on the regrettable historical event.
