Hyderabad : Amid the recent announcement of the Telangana Assembly election schedule, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sources have revealed that the suspension of Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh is likely to be revoked in the near future.
Raja Singh, a controversial MLA, was suspended after his arrest in August last year, following blasphemous statements against Prophet Muhammad. These statements were made in response to the police permitting comedian Munawar Farooqui to perform a show in the city in August 2022. Subsequently, Raja Singh was arrested under the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PD Act), facing charges under sections 153A, 295, and 505 of the Indian Penal Code.
A faction of BJP leaders has been urging the party to lift his suspension and nominate him as the candidate from the Goshamahal Assembly constituency once more. Raja Singh has previously won this seat in two consecutive elections.
Prominent party leaders, including State President G. Kishan Reddy and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar, are reportedly actively considering the reinstatement of Raja Singh, and they plan to discuss this matter with senior party leaders in Delhi. Sources suggest that the state leadership has been directed to make a decision in this regard.
During a meeting on October 11, attended by state leaders and party election coordinators, there was a strong inclination towards revoking Raja Singh’s suspension. An official announcement on this matter is expected shortly.
In response to these developments, Raja Singh has expressed confidence that his suspension will be revoked, and he will be included in the BJP’s first list of candidates, which is anticipated to be released on October 15.
