Verification and Confirmation: Nandana Sen, Amartya Sen’s Daughter, Refutes False Claims, Assures Father’s Well-Being

Several prominent news outlets, including The Times of India, Zee News, and news agency Press Trust of India (PTI), fell victim to a false death hoax surrounding renowned economist and Nobel laureate Amartya Sen. The misinformation circulated widely until fact-checking site BOOM intervened, clarifying that the reports were entirely untrue.
The misleading news, claiming Sen’s demise, originated from a fake Twitter account impersonating recent Nobel laureate Claudia Goldin. The fraudulent tweet, accompanied by a picture of Sen, read, “A terrible news. My dearest Professor Amartya Sen has died minutes ago. No words.”
However, BOOM promptly investigated the matter, reaching out to Nandana Sen, Amartya Sen’s daughter, who swiftly dismissed the viral claims. She confirmed that her father was in good health, debunking the hoax circulating on social media.
This incident underscores the importance of vigilant fact-checking and verification, especially in the age of fast-spreading information on social platforms. The misinformation, once debunked, serves as a reminder to rely on credible sources and verified news outlets to avoid falling prey to false narratives.
