The Congress aims to highlight failures of the ruling BRS government and present itself as the party committed to minority welfare through this comprehensive document.

Hyderabad, August 30: As the upcoming Assembly elections draw near, the Congress party has taken a proactive approach to address the concerns of minority communities. In a significant move, the party has established multiple sub-groups under the Minorities Declaration Committee, aimed at engaging with stakeholders from minority groups.

The committee, led by TPCC PAC Convener and Committee Chairman Mohammed Ali Shabbir, convened for its second meeting on Wednesday. Alongside Shabbir Ali, other committee members including Convener Zafar Javeed, Shaik Abdullah Sohail, Uzma Shakir, Faheem Qureshi, B. Ezekiel, Syed Azmathullah Hussaini, Deepak John, and Rashed Khan, actively participated in the discussions.

A key outcome of the meeting was the identification of leaders and representatives from diverse religious and social organizations. These individuals will be personally engaged to gather insights and recommendations for the formulation of the Minorities Declaration. In line with this, the committee has formed several sub-groups, slated to meet with these leaders over the next few days.

“We are committed to facilitating an interactive discourse with intellectuals, civil society groups, and various stakeholders to deliberate on the proposed Minorities Declaration,” explained Shabbir Ali. He went on to reveal plans for an upcoming meeting in Hyderabad, attended by senior Congress leaders, where individuals and organizations can directly submit their suggestions.

In a bid to garner comprehensive input, Shabbir Ali highlighted the committee’s strategy to conduct sessions in districts with significant minority populations. This outreach aims to ensure that the document is representative of the community’s desires and expectations. “Our engagement will encompass Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, and all other minority groups, underscoring our commitment to embracing their aspirations in both the Declaration and Manifesto,” he affirmed.

The Minorities Declaration serves as a platform for the Congress party to address the shortcomings of the current BRS government in implementing minority welfare initiatives. It also underscores the party’s dedication to the well-being of minorities and their holistic development. “Our vision for the Minorities Declaration is to craft a comprehensive and forward-looking framework that encompasses all dimensions of minority welfare,” Shabbir Ali emphasized.

Simultaneously, TPCC Senior Vice President and Committee Convener Zafar Javeed noted that various organizations have already commenced sharing their suggestions with committee members. He revealed plans to introduce a dedicated WhatsApp number and email address for submitting recommendations to the Declaration Committee by Thursday. The newly formed sub-groups will promptly commence engagement with leaders of religious and social organizations, culminating within the next three to four days, he added.
