Hyderabad’s Old City Metro project has made strides with a drone survey to protect over 100 religious and sensitive structures, including mosques, temples, and shrines. The MD of Hyderabad Metro Rail emphasized careful planning to avoid adverse effects on these sites. The project aims to strike a balance between progress and cultural preservation, and soil investigations are set to begin soon in the Falaknuma area.

Hyderabad, August 27,2023 : Significant progress has been achieved in the Hyderabad Old City Metro works, marked by a comprehensive drone survey aimed at safeguarding the integrity of approximately 103 religious and other sensitive structures. Addressing the challenge head-on, MD of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited emphasized the need for meticulous planning.

In this endeavor, 21 masjids (mosques), 12 temples, 12 ashoor khanas (mourning congregational halls), 33 dargas (shrines), 7 graveyards, and 6 chillas (spiritual retreats) have been identified as key sites demanding careful attention.

An official statement emphasized that the metro’s alignment and pillar placements are being strategically devised to ensure no adverse impact on these culturally significant and sensitive locations.

Currently, the finalization of tenders is underway for initiating soil investigations in the coming days, with a focus on the Falaknuma area.

As Hyderabad’s urban landscape evolves through infrastructure development, this deliberate approach underscores the commitment to balance progress with cultural preservation.
